Since today is the day some members lose 50% of the tokens if they didn’t earn $25 in a month this gave me a cool idea to help out local small charities. I got this idea from a member who emailed me yesterday (thanks Robert) and I am adding a little cool twist to it. Instead of just QR taking away the tokens that will not be rolled over we will donate them. Let me know what you think about this.
Every single month members can submit a local charity of their choice. QR members will vote for a charity to highlight on that specific month. Members can donate tokens in stacks of 1,000. This way if you don’t reach the $25 level and you know that some of your points will not be rolled over it’s a great chance to donate them. You can also donate the points even if you reached the $25 level. At the end of the month we collect all the points and convert them into cash.
This sounds like a great way with member support to provide local charities with a few hundred dollars a month (I hope). It might not be much, but every penny helps them.
Let me know what you think about this by leaving a comment and going to the polls section to vote. You will get 50 tokens to vote too. Feel free to start recommending a local charity for July by either emailing us or leaving a comment.

Excellent idea - the "loss" hurts less ;)
Is Salvation Army a local charity?
That's my first choice
ThX
I agree, it would hurt not as much
American Cancer Society is my choice.
Yeah it is good to know our loss is someone elses gain.
I'm a supporter of American Cancer Society
Glad my suggestion helped. I have several that I support. How do identify which charity to use or will there be a select list?
Hi Robert,
You can list them here. Once we get a list of a few I will put them up in a poll. The one that gets the most votes will be used this month. We can start the same thing every month. This way we can donate to different charities. Let me know what you all think about that.
Great idea! The ASPCA is my choice.
Until Man changes, RAINN can always use a helping hand.
I like Salvation Army also.
We had a fire in my home when I was 13 years old. Lady from Salvation Army showed up and took us to their clothes closet. She provided used clothing the day of the fire. She came back 2 days later, after getting fund approval and took us to a local department store and bought each of us 3 girls and Mom and Dad 3 compete outfits.
They are not rated by Charity Navigator, because they are a considered a Religious Charity, but they provided help when no one else did. They also provide food in the area I live in now to anyone who is down on their luck and needs a meal.
I agree the Salvation Army can use all the help they can get. Great idea.
I would like to nominate a small charity that is local here. It is called Days End Farm Horse Rescue (www.defhr.org) they are a non profit agency that rescues abused and neglected horses. They also go out and help if horses get stranded or fall into ravines and such. They are also involved in helping rescue animals following hurricanes. They aren't well known nationally like American Cancer Society and Salvation Army but I feel that they are very deserving of support. Besides the "Best in America" award that Days End Farm Horse Rescue has received, Days End has also received a 4-STAR rating by from Charity Navigator for sound fiscal management. Last year I know that they rescued well over 59 horses.
Special Olympics
Great idea! I would like to donate to the ASPCA, HUSUS, or Noah's Wish.
American Cancer Society
Mom passed from cancer.
Uncle is living with cancer.
Sister has breast cancer.
Numerous other family members have it or had it and passed.

I am coordinator for the local chapter of PROJECT LINUS. We make homemade blankets for seriously ill or traumatized children. Could we be your charity to help these hurting children>? We can always use the money for buying supplies. We are a non profit ALL VOLUNTEER organization.
Dolores Wright
As another blanketeer for the San Jose chapter of Project Linus, I second the motion for our organization to be chosen as the local charity. We donate blankets to children in hospitals, foster care, local shelters - anywhere there are deserving children in need.
Excellent idea.
I support The American Cancer Society.
I love this idea!! I would like to offer TC Habitat for Humanity as a choice. We are now tackling a completely energy efficient home, just in time for the Live Earth concerts on July 7th.
Great idea ! ! !
American Cancer Society or
American Heart Association
St. Judes Childrens Hospital also
My choice would be the American Cancer Society. I have lost family members and my best friend to cancer.
The largest factor in this would be if we donate our points will that prevent us from losing half of the remaining points? Other than that question I love the idea and all the suggestions for groups made so far.
Hi Geoff,
No you would not loose the other half. You are donating the half that would be lost.
I would rather we get to choose from several each month. There are some "charities" that spend more on overhead than actually helping their cause. I particularly like the Susan Koman Breat Cancer Charity and AmFar.
I would like to donate half of my tokens if I was going to loose them. But I would also like to donate to a local charity called Popcorn Park Zoo and Shelter. Besides having a cat/dog rescue/adoption service, they also rescue and keep animals like elephants, tigers, monkeys, lizards, fowls, lions, etc. that are disabled or disfigured or deformed and would otherwise die in the wild.
you can check it out at.... http://www.ahscares.org/page2.asp?page=popcornpark&style=2
I would love to be able to donate any of my tokens for charity whether just 1000 stacks or less.
Great Idea! :)
I would vote for Planned Parenthood, ASPCA, or PETA. Abortion rights and animal rights are my passions.
Will we have the option each month to decide whether we want to donate or not? If it is something I am against (supporting abortion, for example), then I obviously would not want to donate that month.
I totally agree with donating to charities such as the American Cancer Society, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, children's hospitals, SADD/MADD, and anything to help animals!
The Leukemia/Lymphoma Society or American Cancer Society are my choices.
How about Habitat for Humanity
I agree with the idea to donate to charity. I'd love to be able to use my local Federation for the Homeless soup kitchen. Locals might be tricky since we're all over the country. How about American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Planned Parenthood (not to get political, but lets prevent the need for abortion), City Harvest...?
I of course, am voting for Carolina Basset Hound Rescue. Yes, I live in Georgia, but I know the people at Carolina Basset Rescue & how hard they fight to save basset hounds from death in shelters. Many people don't think bassets need rescuing, but they do. A lot of people get them without knowing anything about the breed, then get rid of them. Just my two cents!
Great Idea, but theres so many charities I cant make up my mind. American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Planned Parenthood, PROJECT LINUS, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Salvation Army,
St. Judes Childrens Hospital, Shriners, Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Wishing Well Foundation USA, and Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN) to name a few. *WINK*
Its a great idea but there are so many great causes someone needs to pick one out of the hat each month or something.
