August/September Token Donation Results / Future Plans

The August/September token donation for For A Child Wish was a huge success. Thanks to all the great QuickReards members we were able to donate 3,627,000 tokens combined which came up to $217.62 (we used a rate 500,000 tokens = $30 instead of $25 + tshirt like for all members). Since I like exact numbers we are rounding this off to $250.

Thanks to all of you Tina’s niece, who has a medical condition that is causing her to go blind will be going to Disney in a few days to see Mickey. They will use the money to upgrade the hotel to be closer to Disney.

What’s next for our donation section? It’s all up to you!
Do you know a charity that needs help? If so please leave a comment with the charity name, description and url. I will collect all the information and make a poll for people to vote on every month. The most popular once will be featured in our token donation section. This way members will have a few choices to choose from every month.

There is always places like Sick Kids' Hospital, but I like what you did with this one. I would prefer to be donating the tokens to an individual rather than a company.

I'd love to see charities like the ASPCA and Humane Society offered. They are very worthy charities that do wonderful work and are so dependent upon help from the public.

Reposting this for poopy4007

I would like to see donations made to St.Jude Children's Research Hospital. They do research and treat children with catastrophic diseases. It is one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the United States, no one pays for treatment that is not covered by their insurance and NO ONE is ever turned away because they have no insurance.

I forgot to list the url for St. Jude Children's Hospital

I agree with Slingshot -- I would like to donate tokens to a small charity posted by a member. We can make a difference to an individual or a small place but we would be just a drop in the bucket to a large organization. I don't want to donate to a national organization; I'd rather donate to a local charity that a member posts has a special need.

Wow, thats exactly what I meant! You really expanded that thought a lot!

This is wonderful news. I am so happy that this little girl will soon get to see Mickey. What a great idea.

I also love the idea of donating to an individual. Just to think that we all played a small part in making it possible for this little girl to see Mickey Mouse; well that is hard to beat.

Charly (age 2 1/2)was was abducted and molested by a pedophile friend of a relative. Because they called the police her daddy was fired and became homeless and penniless. They are trying to pick up the pieces but need temporary help. A one-time donation would mean a lot to them, Charly and her sister.

I want to nominate the following charities

Days End Horse Farm Rescue
Days End Farm Horse Rescue, Inc. is a 501 c3, volunteer based, animal welfare organization established in 1989 to ensure quality care and treatment of horses through rehabilitation, humane education and community outreach.

Since it’s beginning in 1989, Days End Farm Horse Rescue, Inc. has been a place where children and adults have found enrichment, satisfaction, sadness and purpose through helping to provide care for unwanted, abused or neglected horses. Since it’s inception, DEFHR has gone from a small non-profit sheltering only a few horses annually, to a full scale and well respected rescue and rehabilitation facility housing on average 50 – 60 horses at any one point in time. Its budget, and corresponding donations, has grown from $50,000 annually to over $600,000over a 10 year period.

Over 500 adults and children volunteer their efforts in helping the Farm to achieve its mission. Equally as important in its successful growth has been Days End Farm's increased focus on humane education, both on the local and national levels. As Days End continues to grow, so does the need for adequate space all the horses and programs require. The current location, which served us well over the years, is now literally bursting at the seams, with every square inch in use.

and Wendy's Feline Friends-
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Wendy's Feline Friends accepts tax-deductible donations. Chlorox bleach, mouthwash, paper towels, large baskets and old bath towels come in very handy. The cats are always asking for more catnip, powered kitten replacement milk, cat trees, and Bio-spot flea treatments. Wendy very much welcomes aluminum cans and cash/check/PayPal donations toward her substantial veterinary bills. If you would like to sponsor one of our specific cats or kittens, call for further information.

I forgot to mention that any money Charly receives will be used for her family to find a place to live. Curently they are living with Charly's Grandma in very cramped quarters.

Her Daddy has found a job but has to come up with a first months rent and deposit + plus possible utility deposits.

Charly needs love, counselling, and help.

I was reasing on yahoo.com and found an artical on a new foundation.

The Checkpoint One Foundation is a not-for-profit organization benefitting the courageous citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan who have voluntarily assumed great risk to life and limb by assisting United States Armed Forces in combat theaters of operation. The Foundation provides temporary financial assistance to individuals and their families to help defray the costs associated with immigration applications and travel to both consular interviews and to the United States. Once immigration has been approved by the United States Government, the Foundation also provides temporary housing and living expenses as well as employment search assistance.

Here is the story of the first family they saved.

Success for The Checkpoint One Foundation!
The Checkpoint One Foundation has successfully relocated its first Iraqi family to the United States! An Iraqi family of five is now living in safety, thanks to the efforts of The Checkpoint One Foundation and its supporters.

Less than one week before the safe arrival of this family, the head of household, an Iraqi Interpreter working with the US Armed Forces in Baghdad, received a chilling phone call from the cell phone of a friend, colleague, and fellow interpreter. The voice on the phone was not that of his friend, but spoke a simple phrase: "You're next."

The tortured, lifeless and barely identifiable body of the colleague was found not long afterward. Techniques almost incomprehensible to the mind were utilized as torture... A power drill had plunged deep into the body dozens of times, and the flesh on his back had been burned off with an electric heater.

We can safely assume that the threat levied against our new arrival was not an empty or idle one.

Thanks David

Please everyone note that theses people are saving the lifes of our men and woman in uniform everyday when they will be killed for doing so.
